George and Melaney Matheson have been farming together since 1995 when they began Springwater Farm. Initially their focus was selling small square bales of hay and straw. Within a couple of years they purchased their first flock of sheep and have been growing the farm ever since.
George and Melaney have raised two children on the farm, Ila and Rae. Both are actively involved in the farm. The Matheson’s still focus on hay sales, as well as selling their lamb and home tanned sheepskins year round, at the Charlottetown Farmers Market, and also have a shop at home during the months of July and August. In addition to their flock of sheep the Matheson’s have cattle, turkeys, chickens, rabbits and horses. With these and their own garden the Matheson’s try to be as self sustaining as possible. George and Melaney are 4-H leaders and many of the animals on the farm are used for 4-H.
