Martin and Katie Verhulst are pictured here with their son Fred at their dairy farm in Hampshire. The couple purchased the farm in 2014.
Martin and Katie both come from farming backgrounds. Originally from Holland, Martin has been farming in Canada for 14 years. The farm currently milks 90 cattle with the help of a Boumatic robot, which operates 24 hours a day. Using a transponder located on the cows neck, this innovative technology allows them to individualize settings for each cow. The software associated with the robot has infinite possibilities which have significantly modernized their operation. It can assist with identifying when cattle are in heat, track breeding schedules, production numbers, and monitor how often a cow visits the robot and any conductivity concerns. The robot can be remotely accessed using a smartphone allowing for greater flexibility and quality of life.
