Holstein PEI plans field day
Holstein PEI will be hosting its annual field day September 25 at Clinton Hills. The session begins at 11 a.m. and will feature a luncheon, awards presentation, games and an opportunity to mix and mingle with others in the industry. Federation of Agriculture offering Forklift Training through the FCC AgSafety Fund
The PEIFA has received funding for forklift safety training through the Farm Credit Canada AgSafety Fund administered through the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association. This training is open to farm employees needing recertification as well as those who may be entering into employment in the agriculture sector.
Courses will be held across the Island and can he hosted at the farm. This training is being offered at a discounted rate of $20 per person. Space is limited.

Pest Patrol: A refresher on fall weed control
Many farmers know the benefits of applying herbicides to perennial weeds in the fall, especially with perennial sow-thistle and dandelion (Figure 1 at top of page). Often, producers will see a reduction in the population of these weeds the next year as well as a delay in their shoot emergence, with both effects providing a competitive advantage for the planted crop. Unfortunately, however, weather around the time of application can be quite variable and can influence a herbicide’s effectiveness. MORE
