Frank Johnston began cranberry farming 16 years ago when he purchased a beautiful 30 acre property in Point Deroche, Prince Edward Island. Frank is one of 15 cranberry growers on the Island. Cranberries bud and bloom in July and August and grow to mature fruit in October. Cranberries are a unique fruit as they are sometimes harvested in wetland areas referred to as “bogs”, where the berries are floated in water to make for easy harvesting. Cranberries are known as a “super food” as they are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Frank sends his cranberry crop to Wyman’s for processing and they are shipped worldwide. Frank is a member of the P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture and the P.E.I. Cranberry Growers Association.
