Climate Change Mitigation Recommendations Document – Public Consultation Comments
As part of the development of a PEI Climate Change Mitigation Strategy, Islanders are invited to provide comments on the Recommendations for the Development of a 2016 Climate Change Strategy document. The 1st draft document is a work-in-progress, and one that will be refined and improved upon in subsequent drafts, and one that Government will use to help develop a new Provincial Climate Change Mitigation Strategy. Workshop on Invasive Species
The PEI Woodlot Owners Association, in partnership with Island Nature Trust and the Department of Communities, Land and Environment, is holding an information session and workshop on invasive species on Saturday, November 26th at 9:00am, at the Emyvale Community Centre. The workshop will focus on how to identify, prevent establishment and control invasive species, particularly those associated with forests. MORE

THE PEI Department of Agriculture & Fisheries has an immediate opening for a Potato Industry Coordinator. It is a one year temporary position with the possibility of an extension.
The purpose of this position is to serve as a coordinator for all related programs and activities within the Department. The Potato Industry Coordinator will, in cooperation with industry, develop innovative ideas or projects in the potato sector and take action to ensure they are successfully completed.
Duties include:
- Coordinating information from all potato programs and services offered through the Department of Agriculture & Fisheries
- Providing liaison with primary producer groups, other government departments, agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the agriculture services sector with reference to potato related topics and industry development issues
- Developing, implementing and coordinating programs, events and activities which will improve the profitability to potato industry clients
- Developing reference and training materials and provide information for clients to enhance production, management and marketing skills
- Preparing briefing notes and industry profiles for use by the Minister and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and other government senior management
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
Must have a B.Sc. (Agr), ideally in Agronomy or Plant Science, or a B.Sc. in a related field, with specialized course work in crop production technology.
Experience in practical potato production would be an asset.
